The Elevator Pitch

I’m an experienced cameraman with London and West Midlands bases. You can see my CV and recent credits at Arricrew, and samples of my work on this site. I own equipment and a useful studio in East London that I can provide at reasonable rates in addition to my services. I am keen to establish new relationships with directors and producers and I’m up for tests, shorts, and tightly-budgeted projects (within reason!) Call me on 07976221036 or email at hello@rogerbowles.com to discuss.

The Life Story

I work as a Lighting Cameraman in television, promotional, and factual production, and as a Camera Operator in film, drama, and music / live entertainment.

With nearly twenty years’ experience as a Focus Puller (1st AC) progressing from music videos to feature films (IMDb), I cut my teeth on film cameras before digital cinema became the norm, and I enjoy working to the highest standards as part of a team. My parallel career shooting news and corporate video, including 5 years as a freelance with Sky News, has grounded me in the nuts and bolts of shooting PSC and live camera, and proved my ability to deliver under pressure.

Whilst technically-minded I am 100% focussed on the aesthetics and narrative of film – for me the story and picture are one and must come first.

I live with my family in Ludlow and when I’m not behind the camera you’ll often find me out running in the Shropshire Hills with our lurcher, Minnie, or in the pub with our sausage dog Max – it’s best that way round. I’m a voracious reader, a hack musician, an enthusiastic tinkerer. “Ace in the Hole” is my current favourite movie and I’m mostly listening to Talking Heads.

In addition to my services I can bring a lot of production value to a project. I have a wide range of kit – camera, lighting, grips and sound. For many years I have run a little stills fashion studio which in 2019 moved to Bethnal Green. I use Roman Road Studios as a London base and to facilitate personal projects

With bases in East London and the West Midlands, I can work “as a local” in London, Manchester, Birmingham, Cardiff and Bristol. I am a member of the Guild of British Camera Technicians, the Guild of Television Cameramen, and a friend of the Association of Camera Operators. The wonderful Kate Collier at Arricrew looks after my diary but please feel free to contact me directly (hello@rogerbowles.com or 07976221036) to discuss any job.
